Katharina is a PhD candidate at Georgia State University’s Violent Extremism Research Group. Her research focuses on radicalization, disengagement, and intervention strategies, including helplines and peer support programs. She specializes in program development, training, evaluation, and creating standards and protocols. Recently, she conducted a job analysis and developed a peer specialist curriculum for former extremists working in P/CVE. As a practitioner, she designed and led psychoeducational workshops for individuals leaving high-control groups. Currently, her research examines the needs and stressors of former extremists and the development of an assessment tool for practitioners. Katharina is a founding member of INDEX, a board member of the Violence Prevention Network USA, and the founder of Exit Nexus, a consulting firm that supports small nonprofits and government programs in extremism prevention and disengagement.
